Players can either explore the machines shown in the program, or attend "Mammoth School", where players must answer five questions on each of a variety of concepts to master each concept. Narration is provided both by animated quicktime movies that show how various parts work, and by showing David Macaulay himself as he explains the principles that make some of the objects work.In addition, as in the book, the addition of mammoths to the instructions puts many of them into terms a young player can understand.
