We go through 3-4 sleep cycles each night, which each cycle including time in each of these brainwave states. One complete sleep cycle takes approximately 90 minutes and the problem with afternoon naps is that we normally don’t have 90 minutes to complete a full sleep cycle. Waking up from your nap half way through a sleep cycle can leave you feeling groggy.
