Siosa Line - A metal 1/1250th scale model of the VENEZUELA by Italy's Patrone Mercury models. The VENEZUELA is 6.25" long and nicely shows off Siosa's white livery with an aqua funnel. The ship first sailed in 1924 as French Line's DE GRASSE on the North Atlantic route. When the Germans invaded France, the ship was scuttled but was soon raised and used as a German accommodation vessel. Late in the war the Germans sank the ship with gunfire and then depth charged her for good measure. But such was the need for post-war hulls that the wreck was raised and rebuilt. The DE GRASSE sailed to New York and then to the West Indies for the French Line. Later in the 1950s Canadian Pacific used the vessel as the EMPRESS OF FRANCE before passing her onto Grimaldi-Siosa where she became the VENEZUELA. A grounding in 1962 ended her illustrious 38 year career.Very good condition with one little paint scrape on the stack and on a kingpost.
