Grace Line, Furness Prince Line & American Republics Line: What an elegant brochure this is! The covers are a glossy stock with gold printing. Inside are forty-two pages of big b&w photography of South American destinations (how uncrowded and peaceful those cities once looked) and the fleet. The brochure was issued in July 1939 as a joint collaboration between Grace, American Republic, Furness Prince, Pan American Airlines, and the Chilean State Railways to encourage tourists to sail down one side of South America, take a train or fly across, and then sail back up the other side. Grace Line's SANTA LUCIA, one of four sisters built in the early 1930s, is featured in four pages with a big portrait, a large swimming pool photo, a comfy cabin view and a pic of one of the most remarkable features of this ship, the dining room with its retractable roof open to the stars.
