FRANCONIA: 1923 - Around the World brochure w/ plans & photos 1936
Cunard Line - A fold-out (16" by 27") brochure for the FRANCONIA's Around the World Cruise in 1936. Tucked into the brochure are destination map and photos, itinerary, rates, and plans of seven decks. Of course, you or I would have insisted upon one of two A Deck suites for 14,000 for two (about 300k today), but down on E Deck the immigrant cabins were eight across and selling for a mere 3500 for two (78k today). The ship departed New York on January 7 and returned on May 29. The FRANCONIA is described as "the ship of charm." Noted Cunard, "Even a landlubber can tell that here is a real ship, built to go places ... with the lean, hard lines and rakish grace of a veteran explorer." Besides a portrait-at-sea, photos show the Garden Lounge, Pompeiian Swimming Pool, and a plush cabin. Very good condition.
