
CARINTHIA: 1925 - Rare deck plan while chartered to Furness Bermuda
Furness Bermuda Line: A fold-out (25" by 28") tissue deck plan for the CARINTHIA, a Cunard liner chartered to replace the burned out flagship BERMUDA. The CARINTHIA was chartered for only three months, making this Furness deck plan of a Cunard ship very rare indeed. Although undated, it is from 1931.Furness apparently combined Cabin and Tourist classes and called them First Class, leading to a duplication of public rooms and a wide range of cabin sizes. Seven decks are shown beginning with A Deck. A group of small cabins fills the forward space followed by flanking Writing and Card rooms, an Entrance Hall with a curving Library and a Chocolate Shop, two Garden Lounges are either side of the funnel casing, then the Lounge, and finally the Smoking Room. B Deck is mostly cabins including several mini-suites, with a former Tourist Class Lounge and Verandah Cafe tucked into the stern area.
