Probably at the behest of Emperor Leopold I, the painter and architect Andrea Pozzo was summoned from Rome to Vienna, where he created the ceiling fresco in the Hercules Hall of the Liechtenstein Garden Palace between 1704 and 1708. Depictions of the deeds of Hercules comprise the central scene, which also forms the conclusion of the story: the hero's admission to Olympus.
