Woody Shaw Quintet - Time Is Right - Live In Europe (CD)

A band that had long dispensed with a permanent saxophonist and perfected the trumpet-trombone lead, keeping the cauldron on the boil. Shaw’s trumpet style made use of the interval of a fourth, inspired by the John Coltrane Quartet with McCoy Tyner, and together with his use of the pentatonic scale set him apart from other trumpet players of the time.
