It is located in the Lizard Head Wilderness of San Juan National Forest, 10.5 miles (16.9 km) to the northeast (bearing 8°) of Rico in Dolores County, Colorado, United States. Interestingly, as there are only 239 feet of prominence between the mountain and neighboring Mount Wilson, Mount El Diente isn't considered a separate peak under the 300-foot prominence rule. Furthermore, depending on where you start, you can hike from Mt Wilson to El Diente Peak or vice-
