An exceptional pair of hand-chased doré bronze candelabra by the distinguished French sculptor Eugène Lelièvre, and foundered by Susse Freres of Paris. Influenced by the designs of Meissonier, flowing lines and graceful form of the Art Nouveau are rendered in sumptuous detail, a trademark of Lelièvre’s work that won him the first class medal at the Salon des Artistes Français. Both candelabra bear the Susse Freres stamp and are signed “E. Lelièvre. Sclp” and “Susse Frs. Edt.” Circa 1890 13 1/2" wide x 22 3/4" high References: The Dictionary of Sculptors in Bronze, 1977, James Mackay Bronzes: Sculptors and Founders, Volume 1, 1977, Harold Berman
