Les armures by Erté
Erté (Romain de Tirtoff) 1892-1990 | Russian-French Les armures (The Armors) Inscribed “n°1.482” (en verso) Gouache on paper Erté created stage designs and costumes for Aladin, a theatrical production that drew inspiration from the enchanting tales of Arabian Nights. Staged at the renowned Folies Bergère in 1929, the production marked a convergence of Erté's vision with Eastern artistic influence. This gouache on paper entitled Les armures captures a warrior character resplendent in golden armor, set against a pristine white bodysuit adorned with golden motifs. The figure's actual face remains concealed, with the face shields extending from the neck to the torso, lending a formidable presence. To complete this fierce ensemble, the warrior wields two razor-sharp daggers, challenging any adversary. Emblematic of the Art Deco periods's bold patterns and natural influences, this creation by the “Father of Art Deco” himself is an exceptional example of Erté's finest work. Paris witness
