Acer palmatum 'Whitney Red'Red Japanese Maple Zones 5-9 'Whitney Red' is an upright Japanese maple with a full amoenum leaf that is a good grower with good vivid red fall color. Some online tout its cold resistance in rough years, while others tout is vigor and medium-sized stature. 'Whitney Red'was found as red Japanese maple seedling that was growing at Whitney Gardens in Brinnon, Washington. It held its color well throughout the season, but was selected because it held its leaves later into the season than other red upright Japanese maples, like Bloodgood. While this selection 'Whitney Red' may reach 10 ft in 15 ft years.
