The primary characteristic that makes this Chinese Paperbark maple simply amazing is its heavy orange-red to cinnamon exfoliating bark. This bark provides year round interest in the garden from contrast in the spring to stealing the show in the winter garden. The maple species is so amazing that it was given the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit. Due to its naturally harsh environments, Acer griseum is extremely hardy and drought resistant, often able to handle that southern exposure spot in your yard even in the deep south.
