Saint Francis of Assisi - musical score
Liturgical music for the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. In preparing this edition, we were inspired by many of the biographical ideas as expressed in the French work of Fr. Denys Guillaume (Diacconie Apostolique, Rome). However, we refashioned these ideas in accord with our own principles of using English as a liturgical language and rearranged the various thoughts to suit our purpose. As for the music, in the first apostichon and the rogation (lite) stichera we incorporated some features of the Boris Ledkovsky harmonizations. For the canticle responses, we recomposed the znamennyj melodies of the Christmas canon and harmonized these in the style of Alexander Kastalsky. The rest of the music is our own harmonization of canonical melodies or original compositions inspired by various chants as we have heard them in various times and places.
