Item Number: P79 Size: 10 1/4" (26cm) (Nikolaus, Nicolo) [died c. 350] is one of the most popular saints of Christendom, in both the East & the West. Almost nothing is known of his life except that he was bishop of Myra. Many wonderful legends have come to us about him. He is shown here with the three children he raised to life after they were murdered and placed in a barrel. He is the historical basis of our Santa Claus. He is the patron saint of brides, young grooms and especially children, of coopers, bakers, brewers, merchants, pawnbrokers, of sailors, captives and travelers and special patron of Greece and Russia.
