MODERNIST INTERIOR WITH FIGURES AND HOUSEPLANT BY TED FIELDS (2014)
A confident, yet unassuming, modernist interior, with two slender males (father and son?) and a spindly, sprawling houseplant, by Wash., D.C., artist TED FIELDS, executed in cool greens, rosy pinks, and other assorted pastels. Fields incorporates multiple elements that playfully underscore modernism’s partial prefigurement in the mannerism of the 15th-century: asymmetrical composition; the queerly small heads, stylized features, and elongated limbs of the human figures; and a flattened pictorial plane. Signed and dated by the artist in the lower right. Smartly presented in a thinly white-washed frame.
