In the Animal Desk Reference II, author Shelton DVM says this of catnip essential oil: "Nepatalactone within the catnip oil has been shown in research to be more effective than DEET. Catnip essential oil is a wonderful oil to consider for use with ear mites, fleas, ticks, skin mites (mange), mosquitos, gnats and other insect repelling needs."
