As part of my process, I do studies of paintings of old masters. I'm working on a project involving full length portraits, so this is one from Sargent. In the original painting, her shoulder strap was off her shoulder like this, and it caused a scandal. In this drawing, I'm imagining what she might have looked like when she was older. The original is 24" x 18" brush and sumi ink on paper.
