The ideal bluegrass banjo was the flathead built in very limited quantities during the 1930's. Saga Musical Instruments introduced the original GF-100 banjo in the early 1970's to meet the demand and offer it at a price any player could afford. Due to costly manufacturing methods in Japan, these banjos were discontinued in the late 1980's., They have continued to be topics of discussion for their legendary sound and value. In 2005 the new Gold Star GF-100HF (Hearts and Flowers) was back and better than ever before. With close to 25 years to improve these already legendary instruments. In my opinion, it's one of the best banjos for the money. These banjos are $1850.00 new. This one is a fraction of that price.  This instrument boasts excellent craftsmanship, with that rich and ringing Mastertone-style sound. The neck and resonator are made of mahogany, while the neck features an ebony fingerboard with binding and white pearl Hearts and Flowers inlays. The rim is a 3-ply maple wood, pre-war style, and it is equipped with a 1-piece flange and a bell-brass tone ring. Condition: Used, Excellent.
