Early Eocene Approximately 55 Million Years Old Quite rare first species of fossil Parotodus (that would lead to the large P. benedeni teeth in the Plio/Miocene) from the phosphate pits in the Atlas Mountains, Morocco. Teeth from this species are not as large as the later species averaging between 3/4" and 1" in size. All are complete and in good condition with some exhibiting small rounded sidecusps while others have no cusps (typical of the species - anteriors generally have no cusps while laterals will).
