"Imperial Threads" offers a fresh perspective on Islamic art by exploring the connections among four significant dynasties: the Ottoman (1299-1923), Timurid (1370-1507), Safavid (1501-1736), and Mughal (1526-1857) empires, collectively known as the "Gunpowder Empires" due to the development of firearms during their era. The book primarily focuses on carpets while also featuring manuscripts, metalwork, ceramics, and other artifacts. It examines recurring motifs across these mediums, highlighting how some have retained their original forms while others have evolved to reflect cultural and artistic trends. These objects are contextualized within the political and artistic landscapes of their respective times, providing a comprehensive understanding of their historical significance and artistic contributions.
