Refractometer
To accurately calibrate a refractometer, it is important to follow specific actions to achieve the most precise results. The majority of prism style refractometers can be calibrated using a wide range of solutions, but it is recommended to use one that closely matches the desired final reading. For optimal results in reef tanks and saltwater aquariums, we highly recommend calibrating to 1.026 sg or 35 ppt using Pinpoint's Calibration Solution. Typically, calibration is only necessary every few months, but more frequent calibrations ensure accuracy and dependability. Applying a few drops of calibration solution to the sight glass and closing the diffusion cover over the liquid allows you to check for any adjustments by looking through the eyepiece. To make adjustments, remove the small black cap protecting the adjustment dial and manipulate the final reading to match the calibration solution. Once properly calibrated, rinse off any remaining calibration solution and use the refractometer for your aquarium.
