The Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Program celebrates the first manned Moon landing on July 20, 1969, and the efforts of the U.S. space program. All coins share common designs and are curved. This year, the standard silver dollar is 99.9% silver compared to previous commemorative silver dollars, which were 90% silver and 10% copper. Obverse: The design includes the inscriptions “MERCURY,” “GEMINI,” and “APOLLO,” phases of the Moon, a lunar footprint, “2019,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “LIBERTY.” Reverse: The design shows a close-up of Buzz Aldrin’s helmet with his visor reflecting Neil Armstrong, the U.S. flag, and the lunar lander.
