Mookaite is named after its place of origin, near Mooka Creek, in Western Australia. Mookaite is ONLY found in this locality and its unique formation makes this rock VERY special. Unlike chalcedony or chert, mookaite is a silicified sedimentary rock that is composed of millions of microscopic skeletons of a particular protozoan, known as radiolaria. Since this rock is biogenic in origin, Mookaite is technically a fossil! Our medium material is considered to be sand sized (very coarse sand to fine sand), ranging between 2 millimeters to 0.25 millimeters. Please see the corresponding sediment size chart.  Mineral Properties Mohs’s Hardness: 6 - 6.5 Specific Gravity (g/cm3): 2.5 - 2.6 Luster: Dull, Opaque Color: Cream, Yellow, Red, Brown, Mauve  Origin: Australia This product is not man-made, mixed with resin, dyed, or stabilized.
