Kyanite is a blue, fibrous metamorphic mineral that forms in distinctive thin blades. This mineral only forms under high pressure within the Earth's crust, which can tell you A LOT about the tectonic history of an area. Because kyanite crystallizes as thin blades, it also crushes up into progressively smaller, elongate crystals during the crushing process. Our powdered material consists of mostly silt and clay sized particles. Our powders do have a slight grit to them. Please see the corresponding sediment size chart.  Mineral Properties Mohs’s Hardness: 4.5 - 5 Specific Gravity (g/cm3): 3.5 - 3.7 Luster: Vitreous, Pearly Color: Light Blue Origin: Brazil This product is not man-made, mixed with resin, dyed, or stabilized. Pictures are taken in full sun and material is dry. Size measurements are using the metric system (millimeters).
