***THIS HEMATITE DOES TURN RED ONCE OXIDIZED. THE PIGMENT IS A REDDISH BROWN COLOR SIMILAR TO THE PETROGLYPHS SEN IN THE AMERICAN SOUTHWEST.*** This premium-grade hematite has a metallic silvery-charcoal hue, which can appear with a subtle deep red/violet tinge of color depending on the viewing angle. Composed of pure iron oxide (Fe203), the Moh's hardness of this crushed hematite is comparable to that of steel. In addition, hematite has been used for thousands of years and was used in many ancient cave paintings in Europe and in pictographs made by the Anasazi people of the American West. This crushed hematite is sourced from Brazil and is completely free from any impurities.   Our powdered material consists of mostly silt and clay sized particles. Our powders do have a slight grit to them. Please see the corresponding sediment size chart.  Mineral Properties Mohs’s Hardness: 5 - 6.5 Specific Gravity (g/cm3): 4.95 - 5.28 Luster: Metallic Color: Charcoal, Black, Red Origin: Brazil Th
