Kyanite is a fibrous metamorphic mineral that forms in distinctive thin blades and can come in a variety of colors, though the most common color is blue. This mineral only forms under high pressure within the Earth's crust, which can tell you A LOT about the tectonic history of an area. Because kyanite crystallizes as thin blades, it also crushes up into progressively smaller, elongate crystals during the crushing process. This black kyanite is from Brazil and is a great choice for unique crystal projects. Our coarse material is considered to be pea-sized gravel, with the average width of the kyanite blades, ranging between 4 millimeters to 2 millimeters. The average length of the kyanite blades range between 1 centimeter to 3 centimeters. Please see the corresponding sediment size chart.  Mineral Properties Mohs’s Hardness: 4.5 and 7 (dependent on crystal orientation) Specific Gravity (g/cm3): 3.5 - 3.7 Luster: Vitreous, Pearly Color: Black Origin: Brazil This product is not man-m
