Centuries ago, shepherds collected labdanum resin from the coats of sheep and goats who had accidentally picked it up from cistus shrubs while grazing. Nowadays this material is easier to obtain! Distilled into oil, it’s a rich, slightly sweet-smelling ingredient with good fixative properties.
