Eileen Lee’s brilliant slippers are knitted, felted, and embroidered; felting adds thickness and warmth. The bead embroidery pays homage to the vivid peacock, with the sequins symbolizing the iridescent feathers. Finished size: 9" circumference and 91/2" long from back of heel to tip of toe. Yarn: Cascade Yarns Cascade 220 (100% wool; 220 yd [201 m]/3½ oz [100 g]): #9542 blaze, 2 skeins. Needles: Size 101/2 (6.5 mm): straight and set of double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge. Notions: Markers (m); tapestry needle; mesh laundry bag; embroidery backing (optional); embroidery floss in dark green, dark purple, dark blue, and medium green; size 8/0 seed beads in emerald green, gold, copper, and dark blue; sequins in purple; beading needle and thread. Gauge: 14 sts and 20 rows = 4" in St st with 2 strands of yarn held tog, before felting.
