Sun and Shadows at Sunset Cliffs

11x14 oil on linen panel Plein air on location at Sunset Cliffs, Point Loma, San DiegoFrom my post on social: We had a bit of sun this particular weekend that happened to coincide with the spring extra-low minus tides.I headed to Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach for a wonderful afternoon paint.Sometimes when I begin it feels like I’ve never painted before. 🤪This was one of those times!I couldn’t mix the ‘right’ color that I was seeing and sometimes I couldn’t even see what color it was.Instead of packing up, I just kept at it. I was in a gorgeous location so enjoy it! I limited my colors to three or four and then asked myself warmer or cooler, does it need more red, yellow or blue.Eventually, it became easier and the painting came together. Now one of my favorite pieces!!Lessons learned:✔️stick with it,✔️return to the basics (big shapes and red, yellow, blue) and✔️try to enjoy the moment.
