Florida Ash (Fraxinus caroliniana), aka Pop Ash is a native deciduous tree typically reaching 30 to 60 feet in height with a relatively narrow spread of about 10 feet. It thrives in moist to aquatic environments, favoring soils that range from sandy to clay, loam, or organic muck with acidic to neutral pH. Florida Ash grows best in full sun to partial shade, where it contributes to wetland stability and water retention. This species produces brown, winged fruits known as samaras that ripen from summer to fall and are dispersed primarily by wind and water.  Florida Ash is an important larval host plant for butterflies, including the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Mourning Cloak, and Viceroy, supporting regional biodiversity.
