Stop and Jot to Show Reading Thinking Assessment -- A Progress Monitoring Tool
Description This product includes a tool for assessing your students' thinking notes about their reading. It includes a rubric and checklist for creating a snapshot of a student's reading thinking. This progress monitoring tool can be kept inside a literacy portfolio Students will choose 6-10 of their best thinking notes for one book they have read. The teacher will then use the rubric and checklist to assess their thinking. The checklist will help the teacher create a snapshot of the kinds of thinking a student is doing while they read. The snapshot can then be analyzed to assess if the student has a basic/surface/literal understanding of the text or a deeper/inferential understanding of the text. The checklist and rubric will help to guide your thinking about the reading notes and provide the student with feedback about how to improve his/her reading thinking or how to move him/her from surface understanding to deeper understanding. This form can be placed in a data binder for the individual student.
