Apis Sol, 2024

Apis Sol, 2024 5.18 x 1.44 in (WxD)13.16 x 3.66 cm Found objects (camera parts, watch parts, electronics, transformer wire), pressure-cast urethane resin, alum/brass hanger.  The name for this piece basically means 'Sun Bee' in Latin. While trying to simulate the fuzzy nature of this bee, I couldn't escape the sun-like appearance of parts on the thorax. Brass parts naturally fit the bee aesthetic, but I make less of them due to the relative rarity of brass found objects. Unlike flies, bees have two pairs of wings.  Certificate of Authenticity included. Embossed signature label on bottom of cast. There is a custom-made aluminum key-hole hanger on the back that is screwed to the cast, this allows the cast to float away from the wall when hung. Includes hanging screw for drywall or wood wall.
