THE STORY: This was my first experiment with gilding a painting with gold leaf and the smallest painting I’ve ever created. It features a handsome chestnut gelding named Goldfish owned by the wonderful rider Kiera Phlipot. I thought Goldfish would be the perfect first horse to paint with gold leaf because, of course, his name is part “gold” and frankly I just wanted to paint this horse in my studio again (I painted him for Kiera in 2018). The overall design was inspired by Japanese folding screens, or byobu. I loved how gold leaf served as both the background and foreground for the images painted on the screens. The gold provided a sense of grandeur to the painted images while also literally brightening up a room, with light reflecting off the gold. THE DETAILS: Thick stretched & mounted Artisan archival canvas White archival backing & wire hanger Available in 10x14" and 20x28"   *Photos are for reference only to help you envision the artwork’s sizing and may not depict
