A contemporary abstract figurative oil painting on paper by Detroit artist Barbara Goodman. Hand signed in pencil and dated 1994 on the bottom right corner. Annotated "For Betty..." along bottom margin. This was created for fellow Detroit artist, Betty Woodward-Bosley. A macabre composition depicting an abstracted green figure with a swirling black background. The figure is hunched over with arms extended over the head. This artwork is a nod to Post-Impressionism and Expressionism periods. There is a similarity to the works by Edvard Munch such as infamous painting "The Scream." From a private collection. Dimensions: 18.5"h x 15.5"w x 1.25"d (framed). In very good condition.  Brenda Goodman (1943) was a member of the Cass Corridor Movement, the group of artists from Detroit's Cass Corridor neighborhood whose work responded to the post-industrial decline sweeping the country.
