This antique Habsburg fallow deer trophy is mounted on a hand carved wood Black Forest plaque with hand-glazed finish and gilt details. The cap of the trophy is decorated with a wappen of the Grand Dukes of Baden, who frequently hunted with Emperor Franz Josef of Austria, as Baden, a German Duchy bordered Austria. This trophy is part of a larger collection of pieces that originated from Eckartsau Castle, a favorite hunting Schloss of Emperor Franz Josef and the Habsburg Family, located in the Southern Austrian Alps. Also hanging from the trophy plaque is an original hunt horn and original Bavarian Officer's Gorget. The hunt Horn is inscribed "K u K", which is the abbreviated form of the German phrase kaiserlich und königlich, meaning "Kaiser and King" representing the dual monarchy of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (where Emperor Franz Josef was Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary). Also inscribed on the hunt Horn is the abbreviation for Eckartsau: "Eck." Dimensions: H 32" x W 27"
