Dating back to Great Britain in the 1950s, this six pence coin is set in sterling silver and hangs on a 24-inch, sterling silver diamond cut ball chain. The front of the coin features the bronze, six pence token, bezel set in sterling silver. The back features a ruffler and walker logo. The British Sixpence, sometimes referred to as the "tanner," was first used in 1551 during King Edward VI's reign. It quickly established itself as a mainstay of British currency and was intended to improve and stabilize the medieval system of money. From its modest origins as a "sixpenny bit" in medieval England to its use in Christmas puddings, the history of the sixpence crosses centuries and civilizations.
