She is credited as being the first person to make a lei kui lehua. Otherwise known as, lei lihilihi lehua. 11:30AM-12:30PM • Break 12:30PM-3:30PM • Niihau Shell Earring Workshop Saturday July 19, 2025 9:00AM-12:00PM • Hula Kahiko: NĀ WAI KAULANA Implement Hula (‘ili’ili) Written to honor the four main waterways on the island of Maui. These main waterways consist of Waikapū, Wailuku, Waiʻehu, and Waiheʻe. 12:00-1:00PM • Break 1:00-3:00PM ‘OLI (Chant): KUKU’ENA (Lei Chant) A chant written to honor the goddess Kukuʻena. Older sister of Pele, and goddess of lei making. 3:00-3:30PM • Break 3:30PM-6:00PM LEI WORKSHOP: Hilo Kukui Sunday July 20, 20259:00-12:00PM Hula Auana: NANI WAI’ALE Composed to honor the uplands of Piʻihonua. From the beauty of Waiʻale waterfall, the abundant river of Kapehu, to the woman who catches ʻōpae by hand in the stream.
