Family is Everything

Onaqui Mountains, Utah Keeping his mare and very young foal at a safe distance and away from the challenges that ensue while near the watering hole.  The young, small family band quietly waits their turn to water.  When your a lone stallion with only one mare and no lieutenant stallion-think wingman–you are wise about when you go in for water. As the years go on he will likely gain more mares and a larger family, therefore safety in numbers.  But this particular spring, with his very new foal I watched as he kept them tucked back away from the fray. That is the mark of a wise leader.
