Bitterballen and Boerenkoolstamppot
When a meatball marries a croquette, what you get is one of the best food inventions: Dutch Bitterballen (they are not bitter! lol). It is one of the most popular Dutch meals. It consists of crispy, deep-fried balls with tiny pieces of savory beef filling cooked in a thick ragout of flour, herbs, and shallots. This meal is served with mustard, thinly sliced smoked pork sausage, and Boerenkoolstamppot, a Dutch comfort food of mashed potatoes, turnips, and kale. Option-Add a note if you want the pork sausage removed. Note: Smoked pork sausage is not shown in this picture. We will not serve the brown sauce and cheese shown in the image. Ingredients: Bitterballen: Chuck beef, onion, garlic, pepper, bay leaves, clove, thyme, salt, olive oil, butter, shallots, flour, milk, beef stock, nutmeg, parsley, dijon mustard, nutmeg, flour, eggs, breadcrumbs, and canola oil I Boerenkoolstamppot: Potato, water, turnip, kale, shallots, bay leaves, nutmeg, milk, butter, salt, and pepper
