Bayview, oil on canvas 25"x31"x1.5", 2021

Original oil on canvas with frame 25"x31"x1.5"   “Red clouds give birth to the peak dawn,    Orange skies incite returning birds” My studio is just a couple blocks from Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. I go out there almost every day after a long day working in the studio. Sometimes I paint outdoor and start with a quick small oil sketch to get a sense of the colors and composition. Then in my studio, I use the sketch as a base for inspiration and begin rearranging elements to make them work better in the final design of the painting. For this painting, I made a very strong contrast between the orange and cold blue with a  purple horizon interrupted by the shoreline and the cloud’s movement. I painted mainly with a palette knife.
