Ninjas of ancient Japan were called shinobis. The word ninja is actually of Chinese origin not used until the 20th century. Secretive shinobi warriors who were also spies lived in Iga and Koga, Japan between the 15th and 17th centuries. These areas were ruled by samurai so villagers in Iga and Koga trained in the stealthy martial art of ninjutsu learning intelligence gathering and assassination techniques to protect themselves. They used weapons such as swords and bows. Chris Gchachu's little warrior has been sculpted from marble to a size of roughly 1 1/2" tall, 3/4" wide and 1/2" deep. A miniature sword is hand-fabricated from sterling silver and watchful eyes are from turquoise inlays.
