Sean Akerman is a poet, novelist, and writer of nonfiction. Born and raised in the lakes region of Maine, he later moved to New York City, where he earned a Ph.D. in psychology from the City University of New York. He went on to hold faculty appointments at Hunter College, Sarah Lawrence College, and Bennington College. Now he works as a therapist amid the varieties of trauma. His books include: the novel, Outposts (Threekookaburras, 2017); the novella, Krakow (Harvard Square Editions, 2018); the poetry collections, The Magnitudes (Main Street Rag Publications, 2019) and Bridges, Night (Kelsay Books, 2023); as well as a study of exile, Words & Wounds (Oxford University Press, 2019).
