Zoe Pettijohn Schade: Conflict Arrows 3

Signed and numbered edition of 186 by Zoe Pettijohn Schade 4 color screenprint on 100lb French, 2020 Conflict Arrows 3 is a version of a gouache painting, Conflict Arrows, and is part of a larger series of paintings entitled Crowds that I began in 2013.  I made Conflict Arrows 3 specifically for this silkscreen, as the larger format of the print allowed me to play out the repetition of the pattern and the extent to which the arrow fortresses are deteriorating. For the past 17 years, I have been making detailed gouache paintings in which every image is repeating in some geometric formation. I have long been fascinated by the relationship between the organization of images and the interpretation of their meaning. A crowd is a dynamic subject for this exploration, as the way it is arranged implies or reflects aspects of society.
