Pressure sensors in the gauge form measure pressure above atmospheric pressure. Gauge-style pressure sensors read 0 psig when exposed to ambient pressure. Oil pressure, gasoline pressure, braking pressure, nitrous pressure, and other pressure sensors often employ gauge-style pressure sensors. Which Pressure Sensor is Right for You? There are numerous measurement tools available, however, the degree of accuracy varies depending on the equipment. A ruler, for example, may measure distance accurately, but a caliper should be used for more precise measurements. When we think about it, the difference between a brass pressure sensor and a stainless steel pressure sensor is similar: Brass Pressure Sensor = Ruler When you need a good reference to what pressure is being seen, use a Brass Pressure Gauge Sensor. Example: A brass pressure sensor is used as a Boost Gauge -Reference/Information for determining manifold pressure, not for ECU calibration.
