Robbie Conal is one of the most important street artists ever. Period. A Stanford educated master painter, Conal is known for creating intensely detailed, grotesque portraits of (mostly) political figures. Highly politically charged and active, Conal's body of work provides a biting commentary of political corruption and the "bad guys" who engage in it. Conal is also a huge fan of baseball, which often is the subject of his artistic output as well.The Contra Cocaine image is arguably Conal's most famous and most important. The original 1988 painting is in the permanent collection of LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art). In 1988, Conal created street posters from the painting and plastered them around city streets across the United States. The piece was a commentary about the Iran/Contra Scandal under President Reagan. It is this piece and the resulting guerrilla street postering that cemented his place in street art history.
