Artist: Lauren K Woodward Title: A Bright New Day Material: Acrylic & collage About the artwork: When I heard the theme for this show I immediately knew I would paint a sunrise. It's reassuring to me to remember the sun will rise each morning breaking through darkness and a ushering in a bright new day. I thought it especially appropriate to collage old book pages into this piece as part of the underpainting as a reminder that new things are often built on the foundation of older ones. I caught the sunrise that inspired this painting on the first Monday of 2022 which felt symbolic of my hope for a beautiful new year.
