18th Century Worcester Porcelain Jug, pencilled in black enamel with “Boy on Buffalo” pattern and molded with a sparrow beak. Grooved handle. Painter’s mark of x in a circle to underside. Circa 1753. 3 5/8” H. Professionally-restored 2” hairline from rim toward foot. I have removed the over-painting as it was showing signs of age, the white areas badly yellowed. The cement fix is quite sturdy and strong. Parallels: Christie’s sold a similar example, November 2, 1998, lot 107. Provenance: Jupiter Antiques, June 10, 1995. Robin Henry ceramic Collection, New York, #23. Alternate spelling: Penciled Pencilled
