The leaves are frilly and make for a beautiful contrast in salads.  Outer edges of the leaves have a pink/red coloration while the base of the leaves is more green. Loose leaf lettuces tend to tolerate a wide range of conditions, such as cold to hot temperatures. Loose leaf lettuces are great for the cut and come again method. I like to harvest each individual leaf as needed so it will keep growing and producing more leaves. I add a big handful of blood meal in the planting hole and that is the only time I fertilize.
