
The Original Longboard #1
My very first "longboard" design was literally just that, a long, straight, narrow board. At the time I had a very simple goal in mind: I wanted a serving board that looked like it was made just for our dining room table. What I came up with, I thought, was simple, beautiful, and unique. The fact that we actually used it made me want to do more with the idea.It didn't take long before I wanted to do it again and improve on it. I liked the narrowness on the ends but wanted to give it some more body in the middle. Big curves were added and a few iterations later, tweaking the edges and proportions, I've got a board I think is functional, elegant, and provides a superlative canvas for displaying visually expressive wood designs.Though it was unintentional, it does look like a surfboard. And that's really cool, actually, because the material used on this is western red cedar (my favorite wood). It's a beautiful, lightweight, durable wood that is easy to work with and was a wood long
